Paul Colley -  River & Lake Water Life - An Update

Yet again, Chairman Paul Colley has stepped in at short notice to show us the latest results from his river and lake water-life project.  The images have not yet been shown in public and Paul has agreed to break cover early with the images, one of which is almost certainly a world first.  And he'll tell us how he did it.

Paul has been designing, building and experimenting with a new camera rig to photograph creatures that spend their nights at the interface between air and water.
Most people will know Paul.  A former BSoUP competitions member and current Chairman, he started underwater photography in 2009, formed his own photography business and has achieved modest success in national and international competitions, including category wins in Underwater Photographer of the Year and the British Wildlife Photography Awards.  He tries to make his images count in the conservation of our rivers, lakes and oceans by working with marine and freshwater conservation agencies.  His work has been widely published, including by the BBC.

Competition:  Best of British Portfolio

Definition: A portfolio of 3 images that showcases the beauty of the underwater world in British waters.
The competition is now closed.  There were 19 entries and these have been judged by Saeed Rashid who will present the top six with his comments at the meeting.

BSoUP Members only may view all of the images in the Best of British Portfolio Slideshow but you will be prompted to login if you have not done so already this session.

Saeed Rashid -  Workflow and other rude words!

When workflow is mentioned, normally people tend to make their excuses and leave the room but it shouldn’t be treated as a dirty word, we all use a workflow in some form or another.

In his talk, Saeed will explain his own image workflow, from importing an image to editing and finally uploading the finished image to his website. This will be a jargon-free talk, with a straightforward explanation of some of the key features of using Adobe Lightroom to manage most of this process.
Saeed has been taking underwater pictures for the past 16 years and started just to pass the time underwater.  He currently uses a Canon 7D in a Nauticam housing.  For the last few years, Saeed has been leading underwater photography trips for blue o two to the Red Sea and the Maldives. He also runs Adobe Lightroom courses aimed at underwater photographers to help them improve their post- processing skills and he fits all that in between his day job at Bournemouth University where he teaches Print Design.
