OCTOBER 2010

WildPhotos 2010

Royal Geographic Society, London
Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd October

WildPhotos 2010 promises to be as inspirational as ever with many of the world’s best nature photographers already confirmed for the two-day photography symposium held at the Royal Geographical Society, London on 22 & 23 October 2010.  Compéred by BBC Springwatch presenter Chris Packham, the impressive line up of international wildlife and environmental photographers led by keynote speaker David Doubilet (USA), includes Mark Carwardine (UK), Danny Ellinger (Netherlands), Charlie Hamilton James (UK) and Stefano Unterthiner (Italy).

The keynote presentation at WildPhotos 2010 will be given by David Doubilet, one of underwater’s most influential photographers.  Join him on a fascinating photographic journey through his career, covering his innovative ways to photograph marine subjects and his discovery that promoting awareness through photography can make a real difference for conservation.

The first published collection of his work, Light in the Sea raised the creative stakes of underwater photography and the follow-up volume Water, Light and Time is regarded as a classic. David is a contributing photographer and author for National Geographic Magazine, for which he has photographed more than 65 stories since his first assignment in 1971.

The event will close with a series of unique behind the scenes presentations by winners of the 2010 Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition (winners names to be announced on 21 October 2010).

Tickets and a full programme are now available at www.wildphotos.org.uk. A one-day ticket costs £110; two-day tickets are £180.

An Unforgettable Evening with David Doubilet, Michael AW and Leandro Blanco.

Monday 25 October 2010 at 7.00 for 7.15 p.m.

Huxley Theatre, Zoological Society of London, London Zoo.

On Monday 25 October 2010, at the prestigious home of the Zoological Society of London, London Zoo, a conservation zoo since 1826, we are honoured to present David Doubilet and friends at  ‘An Unforgettable Evening’ organised by Ocean Geographic Society and the British Society of Underwater Photographers.

David Doubilet stands out in the world of underwater photography as a unique and exceptional artist. Long before underwater photography became as accessible as it is today, some innate calling inspired David, born in New York in 1946, to put a Brownie camera into a plastic bag and take it below the cold, green waters of the New Jersey coastline at just 12 years old.

Now, after decades of inspirational image-making around the globe, David is still at the top of his profession having created, among many other achievements, more than 60 stories for National Geographic magazine.
